Recent celebrity photo leaks show that many people still don’t care much about the security of their online accounts, or even don’t know whether they should at all. Those computer users who are careless enough to set very simple passwords may suffer the most from online password leaks like the one that happened this month. Although mechanisms to improve online accounts’ security exist, and we still urge everyone to use them, they are quite difficult or inconvenient to use for some. Google and Dropbox realized this issue and the result is Simply Secure – an organization created to make current security tools more attractive for an average computer user.
Both Google and Dropbox are utilizing two-factor authentication for their services. However, this feature is optional and the inconvenience it brings puts off many people to use it. That’s why the newly built organization aims to bring collaboration among open source community, including computer security, design, user experience professionals, to develop tools that are easier to use and more attractive to the inexperienced computer users.
No matter the outcome of this organization, we feel the duty to educate people to keep their personal data safe. Check out our guides and stay safe!
